Build Interfaith Relationships
Challenge Islamophobia
Stand With Your Neighbors
Our vision, mission and strategy
We envision a world where individuals of all faiths and backgrounds coexist in harmony, free from fear and discrimination. In this future, understanding and respect replace prejudice, fostering a global community that celebrates diversity and promotes justice. Together, we aspire to cultivate environments where every person can express their beliefs openly, and where the richness of different cultures and traditions is embraced as a source of strength and unity.
Our mission is to combat Islamophobia by promoting understanding, respect, and inclusivity across all communities. We are dedicated to raising awareness about the realities of Islam and the diversity within the Muslim experience, challenging stereotypes and misconceptions through education, advocacy, and storytelling, especially in faith communities.
Our strategy involves three elements: engagement across faiths, education of faith communities and mobilization of the network when there is a need to respond to current events.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is CITC structured?
We are an interfaith solidarity organization that relies on Muslim leadership in the form of our Muslim Leadership Council which directs our priorities and involvement.
What about antisemitism?
CITC recognizes that the issues of antisemitism and Islamophobia are intrinsically linked. We are committed to combating antisemitism in all its forms. However, other organizations are better equipped to deal specifically with antisemitism; we hope to partner with them in the future.
Who can join the organization?
We are just getting off the ground now! Chicagoland-based clergy, lay leaders, and faith communities are welcome to join CITC, regardless of their religious tradition.
What types of events and activities does CITC facilitate?
We are committed to a rapid response to Islamophobic events locally in Chicagoland and nationally, as it affects our local communities as well as interfaith dialogue and educational experiences aimed at greater connection with the Muslim community and decreasing Islamophobia in our communities of faith locally.
How can I get involved in the organization's activities?
Sign up on the website and schedule a zoom meeting with the co-founders, Rev. Dr. Michael Woolf and Rev. Dr. Anna Piela. In the coming months, we will launch a newsletter to keep us all connected.
How does CITC address conflicts or disagreements between different faith groups?
We encourage open and respectful dialogue as a way to address conflicts or misunderstandings. Our approach focuses on finding common ground, promoting empathy, and creating a safe space for individuals to express their views without fear of judgment.
Is there a membership fee to join the organization?
No, membership is free.
Can my religious or community group collaborate with your organization?
Absolutely! We welcome partnerships with religious and community groups that share our commitment to fostering understanding, peace, and unity.
Why are we here? Why now?
Islamophobic hate crime is on the rise in Chicagoland in 2024. As Christian clergy, we believe that it is our responsibility to stand with our Muslim neighbors and speak up against prejudice and discrimination they experience.
What next?
We are planning a launch event soon. A monthly newsletter will keep you up to date with our actvities. Sign up on this website to receive it.
Who are we?
We are a group of clergy representing various faith traditions who want to create lasting interfaith relationships with Muslim partners (leaders, congregations and advocacy organizations) to protect democracy and our common values. We are led by CITC's Muslim Leadership Council.
