What is the role of the CITC Muslim Leadership Council?
Having the Muslim Leadership Council helps ensure that our efforts and initiatives are informed by the lived experiences, concerns, and insights of those directly affected by Islamophobia. Leaders in Muslim communities can provide valuable perspectives on issues they face, guide the organization’s priorities, and help shape programs and policies to be more effective and culturally relevant.
This advisory role can bridge gaps, highlight specific areas of concern, and ensure that any advocacy or educational efforts resonate with and genuinely support the Muslim community’s needs.
No official qualification or title is required – all those who are Muslim and committed to justice, organizing and interfaith dialogue are welcome to join.
Why are we here? Why now?
Islamophobic hate crime is on the rise in Chicagoland in 2024. As Christian clergy, we believe that it is our responsibility to stand with our Muslim neighbors and speak up against prejudice and discrimination they experience.
What next?
We are planning a launch event soon. A monthly newsletter will keep you up to date with our actvities. Sign up on this website to receive it.
Who are we?
We are a group of clergy representing various faith traditions who want to create lasting interfaith relationships with Muslim partners (leaders, congregations and advocacy organizations) to protect democracy and our common values. We are led by CITC's Muslim Leadership Council.
